In the new world, becoming stagnant or letting your guard down and not heeding your paranoia would get you killed. Every structure a trap, every street a war zone, and every land a battlefield. Nothing was safe, the only thing the survivors could do if they hoped to make it through was remain vigilant. Their guts told them that the institute was up to no good. They decided it best to stay far away from them yet keep eyes on them. The survivors reasoning being you can’t be taken by surprise so easily when you are remaining vigilant, if they were vigilant before about what the institute was bringing into their facilities... they could have prevented it all.

To be vigilant of ourselves and of society is something I feel we should all do. Constantly judge our own actions and constantly be aware of the actions of those around us, I’m not saying to judge others but most folks have a little meter inside that lets em know, “hey, I kinda don’t trust this person” or “something seems fishy about this situation.” To not heed that seems like a very dangerous move to me. I think it’s important to try to remain as clear headed and vigilant as anyone can during times like these with the world the way it is. It’s obvious that many out there don’t have your personal interests at heart and sadly many people will use folks to their own advantage, I’ve had it done to me and I’ve done it to others. To be able to be aware of that as it’s happening is key to changing that behavior or avoiding it, hindsight is 20/20 after all... so vigilance is an important factor, I think, in being able to change one’s self for the better and facilitate growth.
