Bearing Fruit

about

I’m going to start by assuming you know some of the lore for The Institute and as you read through the details of these tracks I will try to follow a format of giving the lore side of things, then my personal thoughts on the matter and why I made the track as I did. I’m not really used to going into much detail with my tracks or what I make and I’m not a great writer, word and grammar wise, so bear with me here...

In the context of lore, The Institute bore it’s fruit, and the survivors are now bearing theirs... what type of fruit that is remains to be seen as the events have still only recently unfolded. Every day being a new beginning in this horrid world and each day being an opportunity to grow and thrive... or stagnate and be consumed. This is the beginning of the survivors coming to an understanding of what is actually happening.

As far as metaphor and allegory goes as to my own thoughts and perception...

The rootless tree shall not stand. Easily willed by the wind. Creaking and groaning as it falls, grasping for a deadened earth. In so as much as we are likened to the sprouting seed, the soil is poisonous, a subfuscous realm.

These are part of the lyrics I wrote for one of the songs in my metal project and I feel that this is a good comparison to the state of man and the lot we are each dealt. We all bear fruit of some sort. It may be strange or beautiful. It may be sweet to the taste and a joy to any who come in contact with it. It may also be vile, decayed, rotten, and a reproach. This is something I think about often. Pondering the fruit that I bear. I personally think it is an important thing to think about, to truly give thought to action, deed, and words. The fruit that we bear. This is something that can be very hard to deal with at times as emotions can get the better of us a lot of the time... causing us to act rashly, or harm others, or act foolish. Yet we also can have great moments of clarity and begin to work on changing those things as they arise... which is something I also like to be aware of and try to act upon when I can see something I need to change.

I like discordant melodies and a blend of happy tones and melancholy tones. That duality that can be so pervasive in a lot of things can make or break us, I feel. So when writing most of my tracks, I tend to try to meld those things together... not as in “I’m gonna play this note here and make it dark and oooo imma play this one here to make it all poppy again.” A lot of what I write just happens to come out organically and I think it’s because that is something I think about a lot... it just kind of happens to show itself in what I write. Obviously influence from other bands, artists, and things of that sort can tend to come into play as well because no one can escape being somewhat derivative... we only know what we’ve been shown. So most of my melodies tend to come out like that because that’s what I personally like, it’s what sounds good to me. I think putting myself in my music, getting lost in the moment while writing and just seeing where the track goes is how most of my stuff is written. I usually create tunes as a way to escape from thinking and worrying about things and sometimes just because I feel something needs to be said, but it’s kind of funny to me how in trying to escape an emotion In that manner I just end up replicating it and then enjoying it.... weird.
